As Mark Twain once noted, you should ‘plan for the future because that’s where you are going to spend the rest of your life.’ At Progress we have always looked ahead, and lately what we have been seeing and preparing for is platform-as-a-service.

We aren’t alone. In fact, Gartner recently published their first Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Platform-as-a-Service – and we are thrilled with what they had to say. (Download the the full report here.) For those of you who haven’t been through a Gartner MQ process, it’s exhausting. Their analysts poked and prodded and looked at everything we are doing with our Pacific PaaS as well as everything we have ever done at Progress.

As has become well known, Progress has been refocusing our fantastic heritage around Pacific PaaS to deliver next-generation development and delivery capabilities to our customers; integrating our best and making it better.

    Among Pacific’s great strengths are:

    • Multi-tenant Architecture
    • Proven with ISVs
    • Mature Technology Capabilities:
      • BPM
      • Rules
      • Data Connectivity
    • Choice:
      • JavaScript
      • ABL
      • Force.com Migration
      • Deploy Anywhere

Gartner took particular notice of our approach to multitenancy in Progress Pacific, which enables developers to not only build applications but to then provide those applications to customers. Those customers, in turn, can make functionality available to their own multiple users.

Combining that with OpenEdge, which is deeply embedded in the ISV world, gives Progress a great starting position as a trusted partner in fostering SaaS ecosystems built on PaaS.

Getting this recognition from Gartner (as Visionaries!) confirms for me that PaaS is the path to the future and that Progress is making the right investments to bring PaaS to its customers and partners.
