[SQL] SQL Auditing - C2 vs. Database Audit

I'm running Microsoft AX on SQL server with approx. 100 users and as a part of the Audit Trail mandated by the Govt. in addition to the Application level audit trail, a database level audit trail is also required for compliance.

I've been playing around with Database Audit trail in a sandbox, enabled for Insert, Delete, Update and Execute Audit Action types.

I was wondering how does this compare to the C2 level auditing feature and what kind of performance impact are we looking at with either implemented.

I'm sure many users on this forum have had this compliance challenge.
