[SQL] How to calculate the average from a count result in sql

i have the following tables:

VISITS: vid, pid, date

PATIENT: pid, pname, age, gender

so i want to know the average of visits for each patient. I have tried to solve it so hard, but still can't get it done! hope someone can help me out.
