How to make a fysical counter using Api result

I am wondering how to make a fysical counter that displays the amount of users my website has. So I can brag about it when my friends visit.

The amount can come from an Api call on my Laravel website.

The counter device should have a network/utp connextion and call the Api every five minutes for example and display the amount of users the website has.

Please suggest some (cheap) hardware where it is possible to realise this and some code examples.

I saw a social media follow counter device, that comes close to this idea.

And in what program language is used on the device?

Any advice on this subject is welcome because I have no idea where to start this project.

But o man what would it be fun to have such a counter sitting on my desk.
